We are 18 months out from the effective date of the ELD mandate when most commercial drivers in the United States are going to be require to use an electronic logging device to create their driver logs. While this may sound like a lot of time it is becoming more and more important that fleets start to earnestly plan what their transition plan will be.

What’s Going on With ELD Exemptions?

ELD Exemption RequestsThe ELD mandate has been controversial since it was announced in February 2015. Drivers and fleets have actively voiced their concerns about how the mandate will affect their operations. Since the ELD mandate came into effect on December 18, 2017, several interest groups have requested exemptions, or extensions, from the FMCSA. An Update on Personal Conveyance Guidance

Update On Personal Conveyance In December, the FMCSA announced they were considering updating personal conveyance guidance in light of concerns stemming from the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate. The original guidance was published in 1997 and has not been updated since. Following the announcement, the FMCSA opened a 30-day comment period that has since been extended to February 20, 2018.
