Canada to Adopt ELDs

Transport Canada announced yesterday that Canada will follow the US mandate and require the use of ELDs for tracking driver hours. This decision was made after years of review and found that it will improve safety, eliminate fraud, and significantly reduce paperwork.

Although minimal details have been released, Transport Canada stated they will align with the FMCSA’s December 2017 timeline. It is unknown if the same criteria will be used for what is considered an ELD or if there will similar exemptions, or any at all.

Thanksgiving, whether Canadian or American, is a great time of year. It brings together families, food and, if you are lucky, you usually get some time off as well. Folks gather round and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on TV. The local stores and shopping malls are usually pretty crazy – not just leading up to Thanksgiving but especially the day before…and heaven knows the day after as well!

As much as we complain about what a pain it is to get to the store during these busy periods, it’s actually pretty convenient. And who do we have to thank? We have truck drivers to thank! These are the folks who transport all the goodies cross country so that we can step out to the store and easily access everything we need.

I’ll Quit Before I Use eLogs!

That was the exact statement Paul Kirkland, a driver of 23 years, told his supervisor. You may recognize Paul from his facebook profile, featuring trucking videos and all things rodeo. Several months ago, he found out his new company, Acadiana Energy, exclusively use electronic logs (eLogs) and have been for the past couple years.

As a long time paper log user, he was not interested in the least to switch over to this new electronic format.
