Canada to Adopt ELDs

Transport Canada announced yesterday that Canada will follow the US mandate and require the use of ELDs for tracking driver hours. This decision was made after years of review and found that it will improve safety, eliminate fraud, and significantly reduce paperwork.

Although minimal details have been released, Transport Canada stated they will align with the FMCSA’s December 2017 timeline. It is unknown if the same criteria will be used for what is considered an ELD or if there will similar exemptions, or any at all.

ELD Mandate Clears – So How Does This Affect You?

On Tuesday morning, it was announced that the ELD mandate has cleared the White House and is set for publication with the Federal Register. It has been speculated that the ruling will be published for the end of November.

So how does this affect you?

Well it depends. Are you a driver? Do you manage a fleet? Do you manage safety and compliance for your company – tracking down drivers on a daily basis to correct form and manner errors on their paper logs?

Its Finally Here!! ELD Mandate Effective Immediately – So What Does That Mean to You?

Yes indeed – it is finally here!  So what does that really mean for you?

Well, if you have been required to use paper logs to document your drive time and hours of service, then the mandate will require you to use an ELD – otherwise known as an electronic logging device.  

Overdrive magazine reported earlier today that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced that the federal rule to require truck operators to use electronic logging devices to keep records of duty status is slated to be published in the Federal Register this Friday. The rule will take effect Dec. 10, 2017, giving carriers and drivers a two-year window to comply with the rule’s requirements.
