The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has launched a new, public online repository for current emergency declarations, waivers, amendments, extensions, exemptions, executive orders in Canada and the U.S. The commercial motor vehicle enforcement community, the motor carrier industry and the general public may reference this repository at any time.
As you know, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, some commercial motor vehicle regulations in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. were temporarily relaxed to reduce restrictions that may limit motor carriers from promptly providing much-needed products and services to assist with emergency relief efforts.
Several U.S. states, Canadian provinces and territories subsequently issued a variety of emergency measures specific to their home jurisdictions. With numerous temporary actions in place, there was a need for a central repository containing active emergency declaration information.
To address this need, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) developed an online database of current emergency declarations, waivers, amendments, extensions, exemptions, executive orders, by specific jurisdiction that the commercial motor vehicle enforcement community and the motor carrier industry can reference depending on their specific needs.
Each specific jurisdiction is mandated with updating its emergency declaration information through the secure online portal, ensuring the information contained on the website remains timely and accurate.
Safety officials at roadside or during a safety audit are able to quickly verify a declaration internationally, nationally, or at a state, provincial or territorial level by visiting CVSA’s new web page.
The trucking and passenger carrying industries may also view emergency declaration information at any time. Motor carriers and drivers can also easily download and print specific emergency documents from the website to carry with them in the permit books of truck to surrender to safely officials upon request.
Please note this CVSA link is unrestricted and open to everyone at no cost.
Going forward, through this website, law enforcement officials, inspectors, industry and the public will have a permanent, reliable “one-stop shop” for emergency information, resulting in improved movement of critical relief supplies during either national, regional and/or local emergencies.
The CVSA’s goal in creating this website is to support commercial motor vehicle safety enforcement personnel, the greater law enforcement community, the motor carrier industry and professional drivers during emergencies. This includes, but is not limited to, a range of unforeseen events.
