Why do You Need to Update Your App
When you get a notification to update your app, it’s easy to dismiss the message and forget about it. However, this is not a good idea. By running on an old version of the BigRoad Mobile App, you risk missing out on some awesome new features.
Updates to the BigRoad Mobile App are designed to:
- Release new features
- Fix a bug or known issue
These are obviously both important reasons to update your app on a regular basis.

Whenever a bug is found is the system, our Developers work quickly to get it fixed. These bug fixes are part of the ongoing app updates, and are also very important. When you don’t update your app, you can get stuck working on a system with old bugs that have already been fixed.
How Do I Know That My App Needs to be Updated?
Whenever an app on your mobile device needs to be updated, the app store (Google Play Store or iTunes) will show a little red icon. If you click on the app store, you’ll see a list of all apps that need to be updated. If BigRoad is listed, you know it needs an update. You can click on Update and the app will begin to update itself.
Will an Update Automatically Switch Me to ELD?
No! When you update your app, you will not automatically be switched to ELD. In order to switch to ELD, you have to follow some very specific steps. We’ve made a short video and how-do document about how to turn on ELD functionality for you to check out if you’d like to.
How Can I Easily Remember to Update My App?
Most modern mobile devices allow you to turn on an ‘automatic update’ feature. If you turn this feature on, your mobile device will automatically update your apps when new versions become available. We recommend turning this feature on because it makes these app updates less of a hassle for you!
To enable automatic updates on an Android device:
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) on the top-left.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Auto-update apps.
- To disable automatic app updates, select Do not auto-update apps.
To enable automatic updates on an Apple device:
- On the Home screen, tap the Settings icon.
- Scroll down the Settings menu and select iTunes & App Store.
- Scroll down this page until you see the Automatic Downloads heading. Here, you’ll see an option that says Updates. When turned on, updates for any apps on your device will download as soon as they become available.
- To enable automatic updates, move the sliders to the right so it turns green. Automatic updates are now enabled.
