6 Predictions for our Digital Future.

The chairman of Google Eric Schmidt has made his six, rather interesting, predictions of what our digital world might look like in the not so distant future. For some people, this may be an intimidating, and even scary, reality to face.

Schmidt has co-written a new book with Jared Cohen, a former U.S. State Department terrorism adviser who now heads up Google Ideas, the company’s think tank. The book discusses what the world will look like when we are all digitally connected. In Schmidt’s mind, this will occur by the end of the decade.

The following predictions are discussed more deeply in their book titled “The New Digital Age: Reshaping the Future of People, Nations and Business.”

1. Online privacy classes will be taught alongside sex education in school.

2. The rise of the mobile Web means the entire world will be online by 2020.

3. News organizations will find themselves out of the break-news business, as it becomes impossible to keep up with the real-time nature of information sources like Twitter.

4. Online “cloud” data storage will continue to emerge as the norm, and that’s going to radically change how we view privacy.

5. As the Web expands, revolutions will begin springing up in nations with oppressive governments “more casually and more often than at any other time in history.”

6. More people will use technology for terror. But a Web presence will make those terrorists easier to find, too.

Intimidated yet? Maybe not if you feel like you are pretty tech savvy and up-to-date with today’s innovative ways of communicating. But for those who aren’t a fan of the way technology is headed, sounds like you’ll have to get used to it and hop on that bandwagon sooner rather than later…
