With the ELD mandate in full effect in the United States, the Government of Canada has unveiled a draft of its own ELD plan north of the 49th parallel. As you will note below, the proposed regulations on electronic logging devices has a number of similarities with the U.S. mandate in terms of the overall purpose and specifications.

A Guide to Ontario’s Safe, Productive & Infrastructure-Friendly (SPIF) Vehicles Program

According to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, “SPIF [Safe, Productive & Infrastructure-Friendly] vehicles are designed to be as productive as possible, while ensuring that their performance characteristics meet or exceed national guidelines for minimizing heavy-truck damage to roads and bridges.”

Included below is a summary of the SPIF Information from Regulation 413/05, as well as specific Ontario Highway Traffic Act (HTA) gross weight tables.

How to Attract, Hire, and Retain the Best Drivers for Your Fleet

Your fleet is only as good as the drivers you hire. You can invest in the latest and greatest vehicles and trucking technologies, but it will mean nothing if you’re unable to onboard and retain competent drivers. 

This is especially important given the current competitive hiring landscape and the shortage of drivers. In its most recent report, the American Trucking Associations estimates that by 2028 there will be a shortage of 160,000 drivers in the US trucking industry if the current trend continues.

Comprendre la réglementation sur les DCE appliquée au Canada

Le ministre des Transports, Marc Garneau, a annoncé la mise en œuvre d’une réglementation sur les DCE « made in Canada » le 13 juin 2019.

Tous les conducteurs de véhicules utilitaires à moteur à qui il est demandé de tenir un registre papier au Canada devront posséder un DCE certifié par un tiers d’ici le 12 juin 2021. Regardez ce webinar pour apprendre tout-ce qu’il faut savoir par rapport a les DCE appliquée au Canada.
