Truck Drivers Join Fight Against Human Trafficking

Truckers in the great state of Iowa are joining in the fight against human trafficking. A Cedar Rapids-based group is now working with the Iowa Department of Transportation and local truck drivers to identify this kind of criminal activity.

Human trafficking is the trade of human beings, often for sexual slavery or forced labor. Those targeted by traffickers are often shipped thousands of miles from home to engage in illicit activities. In essence, victims of human trafficking are slaves.

Truckers Defend Use of Hands-Free Technology

Several weeks ago an editorial in The Baltimore Sun suggested that commercial vehicle operators may be incapable of safely using “hands-free” technology while driving. In search of evidence to support its position, The Sun pointed to the case of John Alban Jr., whose rig collided with a locomotive while he was using hands-free to talk on his cell phone.

That incident prompted the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to recommend that truck drivers no longer be permitted to use hands-free devices to operate a cell phone while driving their commercial vehicles.

Truck Driver Shortage Could Ruin UK’s Holiday Season

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills currently estimates that the United Kingdom — where roughly 60 per cent of all goods are shipped by highway — is short 60,000 truck drivers. It’s a problem that has led to concerns that retailers won’t be able to get the goods they need to have a successful holiday season.

Truckers Save Drivers From Fiery Crash in Northern Alberta

fireTruckers who helped save people from a fiery highway crash in northern Alberta are being hailed as heroes. The truckers jumped into action after falling logs struck a pickup trick.

The accident took place on the morning of Saturday, November 29. Alvin Brockman, a trucker who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident took place, says he was alarmed by mountains of black smoke on the horizon.
